I know it’s overkill for something like this but there IS financial aspect to this and its just way nicer to use that then have to remember my password ![]()
Maybe it’s because I use 1Password, but every time I’ve enabled passkeys on a site or app I’ve regretted it. Somehow logging in becomes more difficult instead of easier.
Unrelated: it took me ages to realise that by passkey they meant that I should be able to use my face/finger/phone to easily access a site. At least force-me-to-wait-for-an-email isn’t one of the options. ![]()
As always, if you endorse gibranmuahmud’s suggestion, click the heart!
Different websites have better integration. The very better ones don’t even have you typing in your username, a windows hello or passkey prompt just pops up as an option. Some suck and you have to click another link to find the passkey option like wells fargo (though you can save it as a bookmark)
Apart from security the nicer passkeys also make the logging in far easier and cookies unnecessary (imo)
I’m with Philip, I’ve never come across a well-implemented passkey. They’re usually horrendous and make things even more inconvenient, and then it’s annoying to get rid of them. So if people have examples of good implementation, I think that’d be useful to hear – it’d be easiest in that case if folks could include illustrative screenshots or something, since there’s no guarantee that one of us uses the same website to try it.
I would also remind people that emailing us is the only way to be sure I’ll tally suggestions in the feedback spreadsheet and thus in the feedback report! Stuff on the forum is harder to track and be sure I’m not double-counting (or missing things), so it does get read and enters our consciousness, but it doesn’t get any votes on my spreadsheet nor any mention in my feedback reports.
It’s fine to email us and just link a forum thread letting us know you endorse the suggestion, though; that gives me an email I can handle in my usual feedback-handling flow, and I can follow the link to the forum to check the thread for any details.
Huh. I use Dashlane. I’ve had very positive experiences using Passkeys. ![]()
